Plastic Thought, Inc. November 17, 1995, Edmonton, Alberta
Plastic Thought, Inc. of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is about to turn the clipart world on its ear with its release of 3d-Active(tm) Volume 1.
Several centuries ago, the world was flat until Columbus sailed into the new world. Not that long ago, the world was flat again; clipart was just 2D. Today Plastic Thought's 3d-Active 3D clipart, with Apple's QuickDraw 3D, brings 3D to the mainstream. "The World will Never be Flat Again!(tm)"
With the advent of Apple's QuickDraw 3D, clipart will be anything but flat and static. With the 3d-Activator(tm), you can manipulate the model's angle and view until you get the image you want. Then, with a click of a button, that image can be stored on the clipboard or saved to a PICT file.
3d-Active is a collection of fifty four 3D models in Apple's new 3DMF format for QuickDraw 3D and in DXF format. Included with each model are its complete set of textures, QuickTime movies, and 8 bit and 24 bit plus alpha-channel full screen pre-rendered pictures in PICT format. As a bonus, we have demo software and movies from Apple, Strata, and VIDI. Bundled on the CD are the QuickTime and QuickDraw 3D system extensions.
The models cover a broad range of interests. There are models relating from business to toys, from technology to the kitchen, from simple to complex.
All of the models are available off the CD at no extra charge as Plastic Thought does not employ any CD locking technology. Users can browse the CD with either the Finder or with Plastic Thought's 3d-Activator, an easy to use browser and viewer.
Plastic Thought believes that the future of clipart will be 3D. As QuickDraw 3D, the technology that brought 3D to the common user, evolves and improves, and as the hardware the technology runs on gets faster and faster, the virtual world beyond your computer screen will get richer and deeper. As John Davis, VP of Sales and Marketing says, "Flat is not where it's at."
The third dimension is the advantage. With 2D clipart, you only have the one view. You may wonder what is on the other side of an image, but as long as you are stuck in two dimensions, you will never know. Add the third dimension and, suddenly, you are able to revolve the model and view it from a different perspective. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a three dimensional model must be worth a whole novel. Plastic Thought calls its 3D clipart ActiveArt(tm).
3d-Active 3D Clipart CD-ROM Volume 1's suggested retail price is $79.95.
